You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone, right Joni?

Guys, I have something to admit. I’m a One Direction fan. I sort of feel like I am admitting to you sensitive information more embarrassing than the time I accidentally stripped down naked in the girl’s locker room in high school. (That’s one story I’ll never tell. *In the Gossip Girl voice*)

I can’t explain the origin of this newfound fandom (Fanhood? Fantasm? I’m not sure what the right term is for it). I will admit that I have been listening to their new album almost exclusively for the past three weeks. I’d like to say that my Spotify randomly played One Direction one day and I still haven’t found a way to change the song. I’d like to say that, but that’s not the truth.

*Dramatic Pause* I like One Direction.

I can’t pretend to be someone I’m not any longer. I know I should pretend that I don’t like any boy band that began post Y2K, but I’ve got to move on from that charade and be who I am.

I’m a One Direction fan. Don’t ask me which one of the boys I like best. That would be like asking me to choose my favorite child. (In a hypothetical world where I have children.)

I’m a One Direction fan. I have to keep repeating it because I kind of can’t believe it. What can I say? There’s something really cute about Liam’s smile. Niall is really very funny. And I’ve almost convinced myself that it isn’t annoying when Harry flips his hair like a thirteen year-old girl. And their music? It’s perfect. *Cues One Direction’s Perfect on her Spotify*

I have officially watched their Carpool Karaoke with James Corden at least five times. It’s hilarious. I’ve been on their Wikipedia page more times than I’m proud of. I’ve actually thought on multiple occasions that Niall Horan really deserves his own individual Wikipedia page. Alas he doesn’t have one. (I’m also too lazy to make one myself.)

I’m still trying to navigate being a One Direction fan. Simultaneously, I’m trying to deal with this “hiatus” thing they are trying out right now. It’s been tough guys. I feel a real whirlwind of emotions.

It’s not like I have plans to stalk them all the way to California or anything like that. For now, I will continue to enjoy them from afar.
